Vegetarian Gourmet Cookery
Published in Paperback by 101 Productions (May, 1982)
Authors: Alan Hooker, Sara Raffetto, and Helen Morrow
Average review score:

Yummy and healthy? Yep, thanks to Alan Hooker
The first Vegetarian Gourmet Cookery, which came out in 1970, has been my constant companion n the kitchen for 30 years. In spite of stains, tatters, rips, a split spine, many missing pages and even mildew, I wouldn't give the book up for anything. I'm delighted there's a new version!

This is one of the BEST cookbooks - vegetarian or other!
This cookbook features absolutely outstanding receipes from one of the best restaurants in Southern California (the Ranch House). The receipe for Vegetable curry (Navratan Korma) is better than that in most mainstream Indian cookbooks and, by itself, is worth buying the book for! I have used this for many years and always get compliments on the results.

The Williams-Sonoma Collection: Potato
Published in Hardcover by Free Press (05 November, 2002)
Author: Selma Morrow

Excellent Variety of Recipes
Let's face it, in America potatos are a traditional sidedish. This book actually teaches you how to use them to make everything from the simplest to most elegant dishes in an easy-to-follow fashion. I actually consider this to be one of my favorites in the collection because it does not require as many specialty ingredients as the other books.

The BEST potato cookbook!
We first checked this book out from the library, but soon it was apparent that no one in our family was going to let it be returned, so here I am to buy it!
Every recipe we have made has been wonderful. Many family favorites are contained here. And our favorite part? Pictures for EVERY recipe!

The Worry Week
Published in Hardcover by Harcourt Young Classics (May, 1985)
Authors: Kathryn Hewitt and Anne Morrow Lindbergh
Average review score:

A breezy, entertaining read
This is a great book to read when you're on vacation or at the beach. It's the story of 3 sisters Alice, Allegra, and Edith (aka Minnow) who are reluctant to leave their summer house when their parents vacation plans are suddenly changed. Rather than spend a week with their boring and strict aunt, they concoct a plan which will allow them to stay behind without their parents. As Allegra puts it "We'll be on the island and we won't have a worry in the world!" But their plan goes awry and they find themselves facing dilemma after dilemma: sprained ankles, sunburns, murdering thieves (not really) and NO food. Some parents may worry about the ideas sent by of three young girls living for a week without adult supervision. Not to mention there's a lot of skinny dipping. But if you're going to oppose the book on those grounds, you may as well tell people to burn copies of "Pippi Longstocking". The book is well written with a definitively humorous tone. The characters are very real and well portrayed. Overall the story is charming and witty and exciting. If you like it you may want to read Lindbergh's 'Pinapple Place' books, though I think this book outshines them.

Hilarious!
Anne Lindbergh shines! A great book

Angel Cafe
Published in Digital by Pocket Books ()
Author: Jill Morrow
Average review score:

Great paranormal omance
Two years ago, associate lawyer Katerina Piretti's beloved fiancé, Baltimore Sun investigative reporter Peter Dulaney, committed suicide. Kat has had problems accepting the official verdict, especially since she suffers from dreams in which Peter asks for her help.

On Secretary's Day, Kat takes the office assistant to the renowned ANGEL CAFÉ where owner Stephen Carmichael performs a reading that she can see is bogus until he says that Peter did not kill himself. Stephen hires Tia Melody whose readings seem so accurate she begins to have a fan following to see if she can 'see' more for Kat. As Peter and Kat fall in love, they struggle with happenings that seem more appropriate for the Twilight Zone rather than the lives of a lawyer and a restaurateur.

This paranormal romance will make true believers out of the most cynical of doubters that there is another "realm" out there. The story line moves a bit slow at first as Jill Morrow insures the audience fully understands the motives and concerns of the lead protagonists and some support players, and Tia's "gift". This is a special treat, so much so, sub-genre fans will visit ANGEL CAFÉ for more than one reading.

Bailey's Window

Author: Anne Morrow Lindbergh
Average review score:

Great idea for the magic to work! A page-turner!
Bailey Bond is a grumpy twelve-year old who is being forced to stay with his cousins, who hate him. He spys on them, and says mean things about Carl and Anna, and gets Ingrid into hysterics, but when the magic begins to work, Bailey Bond is the master. None of the other children can work it. But while the magic is lots of fun, it has ups and downs, and it turns into one hilarious adventure after another as the four children look for Fox, Bailey's lost dog.

Kindergarten Teacher/Graduate Student Review
As a graduate student I was looking for a good resource for ideas on teaching reading and writing that I could use in a report I was writing. I found excellent theory and practical ideas. This book was very helpful. As a kindergarten teacher I liked the graphic organizers and the gray boxes throughout the book that give ideas from actual teachers. I find that this format makes it easy for me to quickly glance through the book and find a new idea. I would recommend this book to future teachers as well as current teachers.

The Best Contemporary Quilts: Quilt National 2001
Published in Hardcover by Lark Books (December, 2001)
Authors: Lark Books, Hilary Morrow Fletcher, and Dairy Barn Cultural Arts Center
Average review score:

Not a How-To Book, But a Feast for the Eyes
As the description indicates, this is a showcase book, full of color pictures of the quilts that were part of the Dairy Barn Southeastern Ohio Cultural Arts Center exhibition in 2001. Each page has a large color photo of a quilt, with a brief paragraph on where the artist found the inspiration to create it and the materials used. Do not buy this book if you are looking for how-to instructions on making a quilt. Do buy this book if you are the type who loves to pour over pictures and be inspired by the creativity of others. This is over 100 pages of truely lush eye candy! Also, if you like this sort of thing, be sure to look for the earlier Dairy Barn Quilt National books (some of which may be ordered directly from them if Amazon doesn't have them), and also check out the Fiberarts series of books. You will have to have them all.

A Bibliography of the Black Sparrow Press 1966-1978
Published in Hardcover by Black Sparrow Press (April, 1981)
Author: Bradford Morrow
Average review score:

FOR THE TRUE COLLECTOR
Black Sparrow Press, as most people know it, is famous for publishing the works of Charles Bukowski. But anyone who loves to read the advanced guard of American Literature, knows that BSP is actually the leading independent publisher in the world. Looking through this scholarly resource book might seem dry (it basically describes the title page, size, layout, printing history, etc. but NOT reviews, or summaries of the books) to the uninititated, but for anyone serious about 20th Century American Literature this book is a necessity. The authors, besides Bukowski, that Black Sparrow has published in its 35 year history regularly fill anthologies of "America's Best." Just to name a few, you'll find books by: Gertrude Stein, Cid Corman, Sam Shepard, Fielding Dawson, Micheal McClure, Joyce Carol Oates, Diane Wakoski, Wanda Coleman, Gerard Malanga, Tom Clark, Wyndham Lewis, D.H. Lawrence, Sherril Jaffe, David Bromige, Robert Creeley, Charles Olson, Ed Dorn, Paul Blackburn, etc., etc. New voices such as, Eileen Myles, Lucia Berlin, Andrei Codrescu, Lyn Lifshin, and Michael Lally come later in the press' history, and therefore their work is not compiled here. This is one of the two problems with this book; it's seriously outdated (representing only the first 12 years of BSP's existence), and the photos of the beautiful book covers and title pages are in black and white. Hopefully, they plan to do a new version for the coming millenium! Still, this volume is a valuable source material for scholars, collectors, and fans of the best of the best. Get this along with the bibliography of Bukowski's work by Aaron Krumhansl and start collecting!

The Complete Poems of Kenneth Rexroth
Published in Hardcover by Copper Canyon Press (December, 2002)
Authors: Kenneth Rexroth, Sam Hamill, and Bradford Morrow
Average review score:

An entomologist, not a bug.
Kenneth Rexroth was one of the most significant and influential American poets of the last half of the 20th century. This long overdue volume collects all his published poetry, as well as a wealth of previously uncollected material. Rexroth's erudition is remarkable, and his strongly syllabic verse is sometimes subtle, sometimes didactic, but always richly musical and intellectually sophisticated. His long poems, particularly "The Phoenix and the Tortoise" and "The Dragon and the Unicorn" are especially recommended, as are the "translations" he wrote in the guise of a Japanese woman poet, "The Love Poems of Marichiko."

Rexroth has for too long been overshadowed by his brief association with the Beats. Hopefully, this collection will demonstrate the lasting contribution he made to American literature.

Now with any luck Sam Hamill and Company at Copper Canyon will see fit to publish a collected translations, and perhaps a collected prose...
